Texas Health Resources announced plans to build a 60-bed hospital and medical office building in fast-growing Forney, east of Dallas. The hospital will be built on 50 acres along Highway 80 and will be the Kaufman County city’s first full-service acute care hospital.

Information provided by Arlington-based Texas Health and city officials state the hospital is expected to be complete by 2027 and will include an emergency room, operating suites, a labor and delivery department, imaging services and more. That means a few hundred new jobs in the Forney area. Mayor Jason Roberson noted those will include high-paying positions.

“One of the challenges smaller cities like Forney face is most residents can’t afford to work in Forney and buy a home here,” he stated in a written response to Focus on North Texas. “Too many people are stuck in traffic going to jobs located in other nearby cities. This new hospital, hopefully, will be a catalyst to higher-paying jobs here.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau and information provided by Texas Health, Kaufman County is growing faster than any other in the nation with Forney among the country’s fastest-growing cities.

When making the announcement, Texas Health’s CEO Barclay Berdan pointed out the hospital system has a more than 40-year history in the community with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman. In addition to Forney and the city of Kaufman, it serves Crandall, Gun Barrel City, Mabank and Terrell.

While the hospital is being built, Texas Health will continue to build on its existing presence in the community, including the new medical office building on the future Forney hospital’s campus. Kaufman County residents also have access to a variety of other care sites, including Quick Care video visits, which connect consumers to virtual urgent care services in minutes, Texas Health Physicians Group practices and nearby facilities such as Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and Texas Health Hospital Rockwall.

“North Texas continues to flourish and as the leading health system in the market, we intend to continue investing in new ways to serve our community in Forney and beyond,” Berdan stated in a release.
