Millions of books are published each year. However, only a small number and their authors receive much attention. Here’s some bookish news in the North Texas area. Keep reading.
Co-author Josh Mills will sign copies of “Ernie in Kovacsland” at 7 p.m. Monday at The Wild Detectives on Eighth Street in Oak Cliff. It’s a coffee table book that presents a career retrospective of the late comedian Ernie Kovacs featuring never-before-seen material from Kovacs’ archive.
Mills, who wrote the book with Pat Thomas, is the son of the late actress Edie Adams, Kovacs’ widow, runs the estate. A question-and-answer session led by local entertainment publicist Kelly Kitchens of Richardson will be part of the event.
Mills, who resides in the Los Angeles area, is in Dallas-Fort Worth because Dallas-based nonprofit VideoFest is presenting the popular Ernie Kovacs Award to Gerald Casale, musician and co-founder of the new wave band DEVO. Casale is outspoken in his admiration of Kovacs and credits his work for inspiring the band.
Among other award recipients are Martin Mull, John Cleese and Amy Sedaris. The award ceremony is 7:30 p.m. at Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff. Tickets are available at https://kovacs.eventive.org/.
