It’s back to class for college and technical school students, and North Point Cafe in Denton is celebrating as students dive into those long days of books, tests, and papers. For the second year, the restaurant’s Back-to-School Bargain offers free coffee to college students and technical school students who show their IDs on Wednesday, Aug. 28. One cup per customer between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Each customer is required to purchase a meal. The coffee deal also is offered to faculty and staff of area colleges and technical programs.

The restaurant is at 2000 W. University Drive and includes both a patio and a large community room for meetings, study sessions and parties.

North Point Cafe is a client of Cottage PR and Consulting, the owner of Focus on North Texas.


Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano again achieved accreditation by the American Alliance of Museum, the highest national recognition afforded to the nation’s museums.

Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, to governments, funders, outside agencies, and to the museum-going public, the museum’s press release stated. The museum has been accredited since 1996. All museums must undergo a re-accreditation review at least every 10 years to maintain accredited status.

To celebrate this achievement, the museum will offer free admission Thursday, Aug. 29, Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebratory weekend will include a variety of festivities, a souvenir giveaway, appearances from local dignitaries and more.

The museum is on 15th Street.


Dr. Sandy Ha joined Stonebriar Facial and Oral Surgery. Ha is accepting new patients at the practice’s flagship location in Frisco, but her chief responsibility will be to treat patients at the practice’s new McKinney location, which is slated to open next month on Lake Forest Drive.


Nominations for the 2025 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are open to all Texas public school professionals and close on Oct. 7. Information provided by the Texas grocery chain stated Texas teachers, counselors, principals early childhood facilities, school boards and school districts can win cash prizes for their work.

Anyone can nominate their favorite educators, and eligibility is not dependent on proximity to H-E-B store locations. Educators nominated will receive invitations to apply before Dec. 2; while a nomination is not required to apply for an award, a nomination lets an educator know they are appreciated and encouraged to apply for the awards program.

Finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of judges composed of educators, administrators and community leaders throughout Texas. Ten winner – six teachers, two counselors and two principals – along with an early childhood facility, a public school board and two school districts will be announced at a school board in May. Each award recipient’s school also will receive a matching grant.

Dallas Baptist University’s College of Fine Arts announced National Association of Schools of Music granted plan approval for the new online Master of Music degree. In NASM parlance, this equates to approval.

The degree is designed chiefly for people working full-time in music education in both public and private schools. It will enhance their ability to advance in their careers and give them credentials to pursue doctoral work in music education, information provided by DBU stated.

The fall semester begins today.
